Local Activities
Walking...... it does not get much better
Walks along the coast, in the mountains and through National Trust properties to suit all abilities. Many short walks can be incorporated with a ride on the Ffestiniog steam train. There are circular walks at some stations or longer walks between stations. For a serious challenge the Snowdon mountain walks on the Watkins path and the Rhyd ddu path are only 20 minutes away. The Moelwyns and Cnicht are just down the road....... fantastic!!!!
Biking...... tough but rewarding
On and off road routes from the front door and the excellent Coed y Brenin centre just 20 minutes away. Due to the nature of the local terrain most of the "off the beaten track" cycle routes are fairly strenuous in dramatic scenery.
Golf...... you are spoilt for choice
All the courses are set in fantastic scenery and offering a challenge to your handicap. Porthmadog GC, Criccieth GC and Harlech's Royal St Davids GC are all within 15 minutes of Cae Gwyn. Further afield are the courses at Pwllheli and Morfa Nefyn approx 35 minutes away.
Fishing...... lots on offer
The renowned Llyn Trawsfynydd, where many competitions are held, is 10 minutes down the road. The many natural lakes, rivers and estuaries provide a large choice of spots in coastal or mountainous scenery. Local information and permits are available from the Tourist Information Centre or the tackle shop in the village.
Bird watching...... a true paradise
Snowdonia has a huge diversity of birds and wildlife. From the Ospreys at the Glaslyn estuary and the wading birds in the Dwyryd estuary to the Great Tits and Coal Tits in the garden.
Canoeing/Kayaking...... fantastic
The Dwyryd and Glaslyn estuaries provide much of the local canoeing and kayaking. Some of the lakes in the dramatic Snowdonia National Park provide other opportunities to get out on the water. The tough challenge of the two local rivers, the Afon Dwyryd and Afon Glaslyn, upstream away from the tidal estuaries, are not for the faint-hearted.
